Mt. Olympus Amphitheatre is one of the place on this island you can visit. One place was very helpful to me because it gave me information on how to get through second life. This amphitheatre has many presenters in a group called Science Circle. Here the members give presentations on any subject of their choice. This presentation is followed by Q & A and discussion sessions. They say that the presenations are lively and informative. Besides the different disciplienes, the members exchange ideas and aim to create an atmosphere of fun free-wheeling seminars. There is a wide variety of topics presented here. Here are some: 1. "Stem Cells" by Alfa Roux 2. "Particle Physics" by Vic Michalak 3. "Interdisciplinary Science in Second Life" byVic Michalak. There is an agenda in which you can choose which presentation you want to attend. For example: 1. June 19 - Subject on the Moon and eclipses - by Maggie Rae, 2. July 17 - "Globalisation" by Nymf Hathaway, and many more. You can upload the seminars in PDF, interview with own members, event, documentaries, weblink, and much more. Another area has Sky Labs in which has slide shows. You can also look them up at http://sciencecircle.org.
How can I use this landmark in my classroom? It depends on the topic being presented. It would be great to have a hard copy of the presentation, due to the fact that the presentation are at certain times and days. You can discuss the topic with you students and open it up to a discussion. By having the web site, you can always check to see when the next presentation is going to be and what subject is being discussed.
TEKS: Depends on the subject area and grade level. For example: Physics 6A or Chemistry 4 A,B
